Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about joining or starting a Fatherhood Fires group.

  • What is the time commitment?

We suggest that the group meet once a month. A group can decide to meet more often of course. We do suggest at the beginning to meet several weeks in a row and to try to rekindle the fire with multiple meetings weeks in a row at least 2x a year such as in spring or fall. This hopefully allows for a healthy balance of commitment to the group with other aspects of your life.

  • How many dads are in each Fire?

Each Fire is sized to a group of 6 to 10 dads, small enough for real conversation and large enough to keep going even if a few can't make it on a given week.
  • Do we need to have a fire to start a group?

No. You don't need to have a fire to create a group. DWW will help your group create one if you'd like. If you don't have a fire, DWW can help you secure the equipment needed.

  • Does DWW provide a meeting space?

No. Participants coordinate and secure their own gathering space for both launch Sparks and all later Fires, such as a backyard. DWW does not provide, book or pay for venues. DWW facilitates the two launch Sparks and helps the group plan its handoff.

  • Can a dad join a Fire that's already up and running?

Yes. When an established Fire has an opening, DWW can match and place a new father directly into it. This doesn't require a new Spark.

  • Can our group request a facilitator again?

Yes, an established Fire can request an occasional facilitated gathering by adding a Log. See /add-a-log for details.
  • Not in the DMV? Want to bring Fatherhood Fires to another city?

Fatherhood Fires is currently focused on building density in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. If you're outside that area, let us know your city and we'll keep you posted as we identify future locations.
